Anyway the humor is spot-on and the illustrations are splendid and filled with whimsical details, like the dog opening one eye to see the elves with pencils filling their faces, or the narrator, along with his homework, rising straight through the roof when he's abducted by aliens, not to mention the details on that Viking ax.
A I first came across this book in a bookstore. And it's all drawn with a look from the 19th century, including the font, Modern How's that for an oxymoron? The pacing of the story was pretty drawn out and I think that there could have been a better way of bringing out the main idea of the story. However, this book reminds me of a time I didn't do an assignment for school and I tried to come up with various excuses as to why it wasn't completed.
